Terms of Reference

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The AIM of the North East Physical Activity Forum is:

  • To operate as a forum for those with an interest in physical activity and health in the North East.

The objectives of the Forum are:

  • To provide continuing professional development opportunities for those with an interest in physical activity and health

  • To operate a communication network, enabling information exchange to take place on a formal and informal basis

In addition the forum will seek to:

  • To provide a consultative forum to support physical activity and health strategic planning in the region

  • To highlight funding and other resource opportunities for physical activity and health initiatives within the region

  • To support the implementation of existing and new national, regional and local policy on physical activity and health

GEOGRAPHIC BOUNDARIES

The geographic boundary of the forum is the North East region, coterminous with the boundaries of the regional development agency and Government Office for the North East.

MEETINGS

The Forum does not hold membership meetings. We provide twice yearly continuing professional development events. The events are open to all NEPAF members and non members, and also serve as an opportunity for members to contribute to the direction of the forum. Notice of events shall be sent to members of the Forum at least one month prior to the date. All meetings and events shall be held within accessible venues, rotated throughout the north east region.

STEERING GROUP

The Forum is coordinated through a Steering Group. The Steering Group is regionally representative with members elected from the main Forum membership. The Steering Group are drawn as individuals, from wider membership, to operate the forum effectively. The roles of the Steering Group are:

  • Ensure all administration linked to the operation of the Forum is adequately carried out
  • Organisation and delivery of Forum events for continuing professional development (CPD), including agenda setting in response to wider membership requests/feedback
  • Facilitate Forum communication
  • Secure and manage ongoing funds to support the operation of the Forum, including delivery of outcomes to investors

The Steering Group shall meet at least quarterly. Membership of the Steering Group shall be reviewed annually at the start of the financial year, and as necessary.

The Steering Group shall nominate the following:

  • Chair
  • Vice Chair
  • Treasurer (to be drawn from the financial host of the Forum)
  • Secretary
  • Events Committee Chair

Additional Steering Group support may be co-opted as and when necessary.

MEMBERSHIP

The Forum is open to those with an interest in physical activity and health, who live or work in the North East of England.

Membership is free.

Membership entitles you to:

  • Priority status for attending CPD events and workshops at a nominal rate
  • Priority status for displays and posters at all CPD events and workshops
  • Share and receive up to date information and opportunities
  • Communication with other NEPAF members
  • Opportunities to contribute to physical activity and health through wider Forum activity

All members of the Forum shall agree to the following:

  • Members shall act as advocates for the Forum

  • Members shall pro-actively contribute to the forum by sharing information/opportunities/requests via the communications available

  • Members shall attend/contribute/support CPD events/workshops

  • Members shall provide up to date contact details to NEPAF on joining the Forum and provide new contact details should these change

  • Members shall enter the Forum in the spirit of partnership, and shall agree to share information openly through the Forum, and disseminate information within networks outside the Forum as appropriate
